Saving Money on Painting and Decorating in Kilburn

Saving Money on Painting and Decorating in Kilburn

Introduction

Have you ever wondered how much it costs to employ a professional painter and decorator? Well, in today’s blog, we will look at how much you can expect to pay for decent painting and decorating in Kilburn or wherever you live in the UK.

One of the questions I’m asked the most is how much it costs to employ a decent painter and decorator in Kilburn. If you’re like me, it’s always a worry when you’re getting work carried out. You know, to strike the happy balance between getting a decent job and not paying over the odds to achieve that. So today, we look at what the average price is for a decorator throughout the UK.

To make this blog easier to understand, I’ve divided it into two parts. First, we’ll examine a few things that can increase the cost of employing a painter and decorator. Then, we’ll look at ways to reduce that cost and save you some money.

Problems with hiring painting and decorating companies in the UK

People often visit shops for painting and decorating in Kilburn and are surprised at how much it costs to employ a decent painter and decorator. Which can result in cheaper alternative labour; this can be a false economy. Well, sometimes this option can work out reasonably well; nine times out of ten, it does end up being a bit of a problem.

You’re left with a few problems to sort out:

  • One, you’ve got to find yourself someone to carry on the work.
  • Two, you might have to take additional time off work to be around where the work is carried out.
  • Three, you might be working to a timescale. You might want the job finished for a special occasion. Therefore, the timescales could be reduced and be a bit of a problem.
  • The fourth and worst option is that you may not have enough budget left to complete the job. Therefore, you may not have to get the work done. So, in a worst-case scenario, you’re back to square one.

Cheap paint is cheap for a reason.

Recently, I’ve seen a big increase in the number of customers wanting to supply painting and decorating materials themselves. In my opinion, this is one of the worst decisions you can make. It can substantially add to the price you were originally quoted.

Yes, you can buy cheap paint; however, cheap paint is cheap for a reason. Most decent trade paints can achieve a really good finish with two coats. In comparison, cheaper paints can take three, four, or even five coats to achieve the same results. Therefore, although you originally save money buying cheap paint. But you’ll pay over the odds with the extra labour it will cost you to have that applied to the walls.

So when it makes sense to leave the materials decisions to the experts in painting and decorating in Kilburn. As they know which materials produce reliable results time and time again.

After all, you don’t go to a restaurant and ask a chef to cook a piece of T-bone steak for you, do you? You rely on their product selection and their skill to produce a decent meal. So why not let the decorator do the same after spending the last few minutes showing you what will increase the cost of your decorating work? Let’s look at some ways you can save some money for you.

How to save money on decorating and painting in Kilburn

We can start with an easy one that can save a lot of time and a lot of money.

Prepare your room in advance to save time and money.

Make sure the room is ready when the company of painting and decorating in Kilburn turns up. So that means taking down any pictures that are on the walls. Removing any picture hooks that you don’t want to use anymore and removing anything valuable from the room. And whatever furniture is left in the room, move it into the middle of the room. So you can work around the outside of the room. That would be a good saving on time and money because I know some decorators actually charge now anything between seventy pounds and 195 pounds if they turn up and the room needs emptying. It’s a price they put on as a premium to cover extra work. So you can save yourself some money there from day one.

Decorate two rooms at once to maximize savings and efficiency

Next, wherever possible, try to have two rooms decorated at once. That means you can work between two rooms rather than being stuck in one room. And it’s normally cheaper to decorate two rooms than one at a time. Because it saves time, materials, and money to get two rooms decorated and not one.

Always schedule decorating work in low-demand months.

Finally, another good way to save money is to decide what time of year you’d like the work done. Ideally, you’d be looking from January to March, and I’ll tell you why. A decorator’s year normally goes from April to October; that’s our busiest time of the year. That’s when we’re doing outside, and we’ve got longer days, warmer weather, and a lot of work done. So we’re quite flat out there.  The next period would be from October to December, when we’ve picked up work through the summer. Also, we’ve got the Christmas rush, where customers want their homes to look nice for visitors at Christmas. So that’s the second-busiest time of the year.

The quietest time of the year is from January to March. If you’re looking to get any work done and want to get a bit of a deal. I’d advise getting work done between January and March. I hope these tips will help you save money if you consider painting and decorating in Kilburn.

Conclusion

All in all, getting your house painted and decorated in Kilburn without spending too much is all about making smart choices. By picking the right time of year and getting your room ready before the painters arrive, you can save money and still get a great job done. Think of it like choosing the best ingredients for a meal—you want the best results without overpaying. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll be set to make your home look great without spending a lot. It’s really about being clever with your decisions so you can enjoy your new space and save money too.
